The Beijing Institute of Big Data Research was established in 2015 under the guidance of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Beijing Municipal Government. It was jointly supported by the Zhongguancun Management Committee, the Haidian District Government, Peking University, and Beijing University of Technology. It is the first comprehensive platform in the field of big data and artificial intelligence that integrates talent cultivation, scientific research innovation, industrial transformation, and think tank consultation. In 2019, the institute was awarded the title of 5A-level social organization by the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau and the title of "Beijing Big Data Talent Training Demonstration Base" by the Beijing Municipal Economic and Information Technology Bureau. It is also the supporting implementation unit of the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Analysis and Application Technology. By fully leveraging the multi-disciplinary comprehensive advantages of Peking University, the institute was initially composed of a research team including 4 academicians and nearly 100 doctoral supervisors. It has multiple innovation research platforms, including the Deep Learning Laboratory, the Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Intelligence Laboratory, the Data Management Laboratory, the Big Data Security Laboratory, the Big Data Analysis Technology Innovation Center, the Economic Big Data Center, and many other centers and laboratories. It has also incubated several highly promising technology enterprises.

The Xiamen Industrial Innovation Center of the Beijing Big Data Research Institute is an innovative research institution jointly established by four parties—the Xiamen Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the People's Government of Siming District, the Management Committee of Xiamen Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, and the Beijing Big Data Research Institute—under the support of the Xiamen Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. The center operates under a tripartite integrated management model, featuring unified team operations, centralized coordination, and coordinated business development. Its three affiliated entities are: Xiamen Beishu Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Research Institute, Xiamen R&D Center of the Data Element Pricing and Certification Innovation Laboratory, and Xiamen R&D Center of Zhongwu Chip Research Institute. Through multi-platform collaboration, the center achieves resource integration, complementary strengths, and synergistic industrial development. Focusing on big data analytics and AI application technologies, the institute has established four key laboratories: Smart City, Data Elements, Intelligent Transportation, and Integrated Circuits and Optoelectronic Chips. It conducts cutting-edge technological research, cultivates innovation talent, builds think tank consulting services, and accelerates industrial transformation, aiming to become a leading national platform for forward-looking big data research and technology commercialization.
